About the project

Chaharbagh Street was built in the late 16th century by order of Shah Abbas I, when Isfahan became the Safavid capital. In its original design, it was a grand promenade lined with plane trees, flowing water channels and gardens on both sides, connecting the city to the Zayandeh Rud river and the Si-o-Se-Pol bridge. The Chaharbagh School, one of the most notable Safavid monuments, still stands along this street.

Today, Chaharbagh is a historic pedestrian axis and one of Isfahan's most important urban spaces. However, its central pedestrian walkway, the heart of public movement along the street, lacked adequate lighting at night. This darkness reduced pedestrians' sense of safety and hid the beauty of the rows of plane trees and the historic character of the axis.

The goal of this project was to address this shortcoming: to provide uniform, safe lighting for the central walkway and to reveal the trees and historic facades, so that the identity of Chaharbagh is preserved after dark and public life along the axis continues. In such a setting, light must serve the space, not compete with it.

Golnoor's Almas luminaire is designed for pedestrian axes, urban landscapes and green spaces. Its light distribution is tailored to the needs of the site, and its form harmonizes with the surrounding architecture; a luminaire that finds its place beside the heritage of Chaharbagh without disturbing it.
